Boy, am I going to ache!

This is what we did today: we converted one side of our front yard into garden bed.

And these are two of our three "new girls"--Punky and Mama Bear. We now have six hens: the original two, Thelma and Louise, and we just voted on the name for the Barred Rock. We decided to go with Monica's suggestion: Fallujah, because she was attacked by a hawk. ;-) Paul wanted to name her Barack....for three reasons, one being that it's only two years until the election ;-), and then barred rock, Barack....and barack just sounds like what a chicken says.
The other new girl is black with red on her throat. Her name was Little Black when we got her, but I think we're going to vote to change it to Nigella, which Hibi says means "black."

ooooh, you are giving me gardening fever. we had a beautiful day earlier this week, but now it is cold cold cold. and i want to get to digging!! the sun is shining, but it is 22 degrees out there, so no digging for me!! I am glad i could be of help in the chicken naming department. nothing like making political statements through poultry. :)

We had a beautiful Saturday last week, where the sun just shone and it was gorgeous weather for doing anything outside you wanted to do...but I didn't have the materials for the garden yet. That's what spurred us on to do this yesterday. We said we were going to do it even if it rained, because we are Portlanders now! Fortunately it didn't rain, but the wind kicked up right when we were trying to layer newspaper. That was a bit of a pain.

Sorry it's still so cold there! Is 22 normal for this time of year in Romania? I think it's usually much more dismal in Portland in February. We just lucked out this year. :-)

Gorgeous! Our backyard really doesn't get enough sun to have a good garden.

Ours doesn't either, Mimi. That's why we put it in the front yard!

Regarding Barak as a chicken name: like the Hebrew "Baruch" it means blessed...maybe not such a bad name for an urban chicken :-)
